Marine no uta (マリンの唄) (Marine Song)

Original (JP)

Translation (EN)

The treasure that you brought me
It’s beautiful, I’ll cherish it forerver

These days I’m so lonely
Since you’re always coming and going

We have our final kiss
So go and return to that sea again, farewell

My jewels are all neatly lined up
But your love will never lose to them

I glance outside my window
But I don’t see even a shadow of you

There’s no time to talk
So go and return to that sea again, farewell

We have our final kiss
So go and return to that sea again, farewell

About

I wrote this song while listening to 'Marine Song 2001' from Animal Crossing, it's my favourite song from the series. I didn't write it to fit the song exactly but it does to an extent.

I'd interpret the song as a love story between a human and something like a merman. They can't really be together because they can't both live on land or in the sea, but the merman shows his affection by bringing beautiful treasures from the depths of the ocean.

They never have much time together and days go by without seeing one another, so it's quite bittersweet on the human's end, somewhat coming to terms with the fact that the sea is where the merman truly belongs.
